Marta Torres holds a MSc in Industrial Engineering by the Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) (Germany) & Universidad Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) (Spain). She is currently a Senior Associate of SQ consult, an international consultancy specialized in Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Climate Finance and Sustainable Development. She has also established herself as an independent advisor and evaluator for a diverse set of climate authorities.
Marta has over 13 years of professional experience working in the field of climate change in public, private and academic sectors for different types of clients. She has extensive international experience leading and participating in large projects for governmental bodies such as several national administrations, the European Commission, the International Energy Agency, and the International Carbon Action Partnership. In addition she served as Head of Climate mitigation for the Government of Catalonia. In 2013, Marta became co-Director of the MAPS Programme, a collaboration amongst developing countries employing over hundred experts to establish the evidence base for long term transition to robust economies that are carbon efficient.
Marta has been working on projects that focused on diverse aspects of international energy & climate policy design and economic evaluation, in particular she has extensively worked on formulation of mitigation goals and strategies, for example for the development of (I)NDCs. She has developed sound expertise on mitigation instruments, such as emission trading, voluntary programmes, NAMAs, sectoral targets and project-based mechanisms, along with a notable track record of MRV and accounting-related work. Her actual research interest is in the area of sustainable transitions, behavioural change and climate action implementation.
