Project Description
The Mitigation Action Plans and Scenarios (MAPS) project was an international initiative developed in Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Chile, with international support from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. MAPS Chile began in late 2011, obeying a mandate from six Ministers of State who required the project to study and deliver the best options the country has for mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Its main objective was to generate, analyze and validate information, modeling and research on the trajectories of greenhouse gas emissions in our country. In addition, it has made it possible to identify various actions to mitigate emissions, which at the same time have been compatible with national development strategies. During the work of this project, public and private policy measures have been proposed that have made it possible to advance in this objective and in the country’s international commitment to reduce emissions.
It should be noted that the results of the evaluation of the mitigation measures and scenarios developed during this project were fundamental for the elaboration of the Tentative Nationally Determined Contribution, NDC, which Chile presented at the COP21 in Paris, France, at the end of 2015.
