Description

Smart Grids seek to contribute to the development of new technologies for electric power generation, use and management. The use of energy resources distributed and the participation of end users in the control of their own consumption have caused a paradigm shift in the understanding of power electricity systems, migrating from large plants to small Distributed Generation (GD, for its Spanish acronym). However, the proper insertion of GD requires coordination mechanisms in order to avoid grid congestion and  inefficient resource exploitation. This approach led to the creation of the concept of Smart Grids.
